France has recently/just introduced legislation banning unhealthily thin models in ads. Airbrushed photos will also now have to be labelled.
This is good news as unrealistically thin images of men and women as the idealised perception of beauty contributes to poor self esteem and risk of developing eating disorders.
Models will need to have a BMI of 18.5, the lowest end of normal body weight. With similar laws in Spain, Italy and Israel and an estimated 725,000 people affected, 11 % of whom are male, isn’t it about time the UK got its act together and introduced similar legislation?
